WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, Oct. 17, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) applauded the selection of Wallops Flight Facility to be the new U.S. launch site for Rocket Lab, an international aerospace manufacturer. This decision will support continued job growth and the success of Wallops, which employs over 500 Marylanders.

“Wallops Flight Facility is crucial to supporting our nation’s defense and space missions and is a major economic hub in our area. This new business highlights Wallops’ reputation as a leader in the space industry and will lead to its continued growth and success. I will keep working to support this facility and ensure strong federal investment in its missions,” said Senator Van Hollen.

As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Van Hollen has fought for and secured significant federal investments in Wallops, including $10 million through the 21st Century Launch Program. The facility, located just south of Maryland’s border with Virginia, plays a critical role in both NASA and Department of Defense missions. This funding would allow crucial upgrades and investments in the Wallops infrastructure. Senator Van Hollen has also led multiple letters urging full funding for Wallops’ missions.
